I'm am buying a used boat and wanted to know if there is a service like carfax but for boats. Is there something similar to carfax for boats?
There is, but unlike the the cars there is no organized reporting system. They have information that is public record, and some insurance information but have nothing on the vast majority of boats. When you buy a used boat, simply don't do it unless you take the boat for a test run, and bring it up to speed for 20-30 minutes. If you are not familiar with boats, ask someone you know who is or hire a mechanic to go along. If you are spending a lot of money, $30k or more have the boat surveyed. Under that amount it cost $500 or more for the survey, and what you learn is often marginally beneficial. It's to your best interest to take the time to look at everything. Good Luck!Is there something similar to carfax for boats?
There is a company called boathistoryreport.com that is the equivalent of carfax for watercrafts. Boat History Report runs their reports similar to carafax. You can run a history report and see if a boat has been in an accident, salvaged, submerged, seized, has an environmental lien, etc. It is a very valuable resource if you are in the used boat market.
