You have answered your own question. Converting an automotive block to marine is much more work, you can buy a remanufactred short block for about $1800. Just a note, the Bravo drive is not designed for a 4.3, you should be looking at an Alpha drive.

What is the cheapest place to buy a used 4.3liter mercruiser with a bravo outdrive?
I know boat salvage yards, or used boat dealers is a good place to start. Just wondering if it is a better idea to try to get an engine out of a newer model car or a wrecked boat? I think the downfall is the car engine isnt marine grade and has different cams, heads, and intakes. One downfall of getting an engine from a boat salvage yard would be that many of the engines in salvage have been submerged. What is the cheapest place to buy a used 4.3liter mercruiser with a bravo outdrive?
