If Aluminium reacts with water - how can it be used to construct boats?

I asume it has something to do with the oxidised layer.

Thanks for your time!!|||steel reacts , fiberglass reacts

aluminum reacts very slowly, because of the oxygen bond aluminum practically speaking doesn't rust|||Iron and it's alloys also react with water (more so than air). The problem is deferred by adding a metal such as zinc or magnesium to the alloy, "galvanising" it. This works to stave off rusting of the iron by the zinc having a higher "oxidising" effect on the iron than the oxygen in water and/or air.

Hence "stainless steel" is born =)
